Spring 2019: Introduction to Museum Studies (Museums for All)

IDST 3 –  Introduction to Museum Studies Museums for All.
Can museums open up our world and forge new possibilities? Yes, they can! Unpack the fascinating evolution of museums in America– money/power/politics. Critique and creatively envision the future of museums from exploring their architecture to art, science and history exhibitions. Enjoy Bay Area field trips, readings, class discussions, and creative projects.
We visit the de Young, the Asian Art Museum, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Museum of the African Diaspora, the SF MOMA, the California Historical Society, and the Oakland Museum. We also tour the Diego Rivera mural at City College and the Mission District murals. Total fees $10—due to free and reduced museum admission.
Class meets THURSDAYS 2:10-5:00 p.m. Jan 17 – May 16
CCSF  DOWNTOWN CAMPUS –  88 4th Street at Mission
